Stones River Battle Field

Murfreesboro, Tennessee

I took these photographs in September, 2002 near Haydens Monument. The phenomena isn't that impressive, but intriguing, none the less.  I had an interesting experience while walking through the wooded area on the left of the monument.  I was taking photographs when I felt a slap on the right side of my face.  Because the area was wooded, I thought maybe a branch had hit me, although I was standing still at the time in a fairly open section.  A few seconds later my face started to burn.  I tried to ignore it, and continued walking through the woods.  The pain became very intense, almost unbearably so.  Mark looked at my face and didn't see a reason for the burning sensation.  We walked out of the woods at that point, and down the railroad tracks to the walled cemetery.  I sat on the wall, and the pain started to subside, eventually fading to the point where I could barely feel it.   After about an hour of photographing the cemetery we decided to walk  back to the truck.  As soon as we re-entered the wooded area my face started to burn again, and continued to burn until well after we drove off.  ~Kriss
